Dealing with Gender Bias in Startup Funding

According to a report by the International Financial Corporation (IFC), women SMEs make significant contributions to every economy in which they operate yet are far less likely to access the financing needed to start or grow a business.
Unconscious bias may limit funding opportunities for women, as the lens through which women’s startup ventures are viewed is clouded by social stereotypes. According to Pitchbook, less than 10% of female-founded start-ups are allocated funding by venture capitalists in the EU. It is evident that women experience a gender-specific disadvantage when they seek to launch and grow their businesses.
Much current analysis of the economy focuses on the need to include more women in the entrepreneurial ecosystem to increase shared prosperity for society. In this context, the promotion of entrepreneurship and SMEs is moving up the government policy agenda.
